waves that rushed up to kiss the land.
Marcus was about twenty feet away, down where the
waves could lap at his feet -- the joining of water and sand.
He cut quite the figure all in black, bald head shining in the
sun, back straight. Billy was there next to Marcus, standing
proudly at his friend s side. He wasn t as tall as Master
Marcus, but to Tanny, he was the best looking man on the
beach.
Jack and Master Oliver were there, too, dressed in cream
linens, looking relaxed and happy. The only woman on
the beach was the officiant, an old woman with the most
amazing steel grey hair blowing in the breeze off the ocean,
and a flowing blue robe. She kind of reminded Tanny of
Margaret, something about the way she stood and the look
in her eyes when they d met her the evening before.
Oh, Margaret would have loved this. She would have
beamed and been so happy.
Tanny heard Marcus indrawn breath and Jim s fingers
squeezed his. This was it.
Jack clapped and Master Oliver joined in, their approval
and joy clear.
When they were a few feet away, the sand now wet
and cool beneath their feet, Marcus reached out his hand.
Baby... Jim. His voice was soft and so full of love.
Marcus. Jim s smile was brighter than the sun and his
and Marcus fingers twined together. They stood side by
side, facing the ocean and the eternally incoming waves.
They looked so good together, so right.
Tanny moved to stand with his Billy, grinning so hard his
face hurt.
Billy met his gaze and smiled, eyes bright as his hand
was taken, squeezed tight in Billy s. Love you. The
words were only mouthed, not spoken out loud, but Tanny
knew them in his bones.
Tanny nodded and leaned against Billy, watching as the
best friend ever joined with the other half of his soul.
